Photography

I've got myself a decent Digital SLR camera, so my new quest is to learn how to use it well, and take good photos. I think i've got a fairly good eye for a photo, though I don't think I've got a wicked creative spark yet.

My main challenge is to get my head around the technical aspects, and apply them to the photos I want to take. I'll be putting my photos here when i can.

Searching for inspiration I'm making a list of the types of things I want to photgraph, on top of ultimate...

Rock balancing/anything balancing
Streams
Sunsets (oldie but a goodie)
Jump photos - shots of me/friends jumping around the place
silhouettes
Black and white photos
monochrome photos with one aspect in colour - really good highlighting technique that i admire
messing with the colours of photos


my main interest at the moment is lightpainting - getting out in the dusk/dark to take long exposure photos and use torches to illuminate/write/light graffiti the surroundings. I've been playing, but clearly need a lot of work (link to a photo). here's the things that I've found seem cool to do

drawing animals,shapes,aliens,swirls
light attacks
Jump and patterns
hats/wings/extra body parts
simple writing
columns,drawing over architecture
flowers, with different colours
multiple people...
